There is a verse that says,
“unless you become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” [Matthew 18:3]
The kingdom of heaven seems to be a space that you just can’t get to as an adult. Maybe this is because as we grow older, we stop believing, we stop searching, and we stop seeing past the concrete tangible. Maybe this heaven place is a space where wonder, belief, and imagination have to be active.
There seems to be something about a child’s state that hasn’t put a cap on what is possible.
As an artist, I have thought about this concept a lot. Within my art, I have tried to really capture the journey and search that a child brings to life, in order to find it. Its a journey that isn’t possible for adults who too easily pass things off as nonsense, or seemingly impossible.
But apparently it isn’t possible for adults to get to this space. They just can’t get there in their adult state. They must become children again to get there. Is what’s important in life an elite club, only for kids? Well, excuse me bouncer, I’m a child, and I’m coming in, thanks!
And with these thoughts running through my head, I am more than proud to announce that my wife Melanie and I will be having a baby in June 2013!
I’ve made many paintings in my lifetime, but I think this one is going to be the best masterpiece.
Its a nervous and exciting thought.
I am going to be a dad!!!! Whoah. I am going to be a dad.
I am excited to teach my child many things, but am more excited for the things my child will teach me.
